Structured
wiring is a method of providing the
communications infrastructure of your home in a well organized, easy to understand,
and thorough way to provide a general solution to your present and future needs.
Rather than run a coax here, and a Cat 5 there, and another coax somewhere else
as you guess at the future needs, the structured approach is to consistently
run a full bundle of wire to every significant room.
In today's world, many new
technologies are becoming available for use in the home. By having a home that
is properly wired during the construction phase, you can take advantage of
existing technologies, as well as be prepared for the up and coming
technologies of tomorrow. Phone, internet, Ethernet, and television jacks must
be planned ahead, especially if high-definition television, broadband internet,
an advanced phone or intercom system, or home network is being thought of.
Proper structured wiring done ahead of time can save a lot of headache and cost
down the road.
When structured wiring is utilized
in a home, it removes boundaries that would otherwise be present. Centrally
located cable modems and network routers give the entire home access to the
internet throughout the house, through a connection to the wall or via wireless
connection; no more being forced to go to the office to check your e-mail.
Structured wiring gives you the option to expand your systems capabilities as
the years go on. Adding extra wiring during the construction phase can save you
thousands of dollars down the road.
